Thoughtful Planning, Quality Results: A Kitchen Remodel Done Right

This kitchen remodel was made possible by the incredible MacCoy Home Solutions crew! By removing the wall and built-in breakfast nook between the kitchen and living room, we created an inviting open concept layout perfect for gathering and entertaining. We also relocated the backyard access, replacing the slider door in the kitchen with a single door in the dining room, which opened up even more valuable storage space. This reconfiguration allowed us to introduce a large island with bar seating, all beautifully framed by sage green painted maple cabinets and polished Viatera Cirrus quartz countertops that carry seamlessly up the wall as a statement-making backsplash. The bright, airy design is completed with polished nickel hardware and Quoizel Grant wide dome pendants, while rich Italian Terre Etrusche porcelain hex tile grounds the space and brings in warmth and personality.

A perfect blend of function, charm, and comfort—all in one space!

Inside the Process: From Vision to Reality

At MacCoy Home Solutions, every remodel begins with a personalized approach, and this kitchen transformation was no exception. The process began with an on-site visit from our Sales Coordinator, Bill, who met with the homeowners to understand their goals and provide an initial estimate. Once the estimate was approved, our Production Manager, Marcus, conducted a detailed walkthrough with the clients to gather production details and prepare for the next phase. To kick off design development, we connected the homeowners with our cabinet representative, Dana, at Dunn Lumber. Simultaneously, Marcus coordinated with the homeowners’ chosen architect, Jim Musar of Aspects Architecture, to initiate the drafting and permitting process necessary to remove the wall between the kitchen and living room. With layout plans in place, Marcus worked closely with the homeowners to finalize selections and finishes before creating a revised proposal based on the architectural drawings and chosen materials. After receiving approval on the revised proposal, Marcus scheduled the project for production. From there, the MacCoy Home Solutions crew, along with our trusted subcontractors, brought the vision to life with precision and care under the professional oversight of our Project Manager, Derek. The project concluded with a final walkthrough, where Marcus ensured every detail met our high standards for quality and craftsmanship. The result: a bright, open-concept kitchen that the homeowners can now enjoy for years to come.

Overcoming Obstacles: A Behind-the-Scenes Look

One of the primary challenges we encountered during this kitchen remodel was the significant floor elevation change between the kitchen and the formal dining room. Once the dividing wall between the kitchen and living room was removed, and the space was opened up to the formal living area and dining room, we were left with a large, continuous space featuring differing finish floor heights.

To address this, we thoughtfully selected a tile that complemented both existing flooring materials, creating a cohesive visual connection between the spaces. We strategically positioned the new kitchen island to serve as a natural visual break point, allowing for a smoother transition between finishes. Additionally, we adjusted the floor elevations to be uniform throughout the area, minimizing the level change and limiting it to a single, subtle transition into the formal living room. This solution preserved the open-concept design while enhancing both functionality and visual flow.

Managing the Remodel: A Timeline Breakdown

The kitchen remodel began when the clients first reached out to MacCoy Home Solutions for an initial estimate in April 2024, and officially chose to move forward with our team by signing the estimate in May 2024. In June, they began working closely with our Production Manager to initiate the production and selection phases. Architectural planning commenced in August 2024, and by December 2024, all material selections, finish details, and architectural plans were finalized—leading to the approval of a revised proposal. Construction began in February 2025 and was successfully completed 10 weeks later, delivering a thoughtfully designed, beautifully executed kitchen remodel on schedule.

Thank You for Trusting Our Team

We’re honored to have been selected to bring this remodel to life and are deeply appreciative of the trust, communication, and collaboration our clients brought to the process. From the very beginning, our crew remained committed to creating a comfortable and respectful environment—offering flexibility with start times and adapting our routines to accommodate our clients’ health needs. It was important to us that they never felt displaced during the remodel, and we’re proud to have upheld that standard. Projects like this reflect the power of thoughtful teamwork and a shared vision. Below is their feedback on the experience:

“To all that were involved with our home renovation project we send a big thank you! The whole experience turned out to be extremely positive for us. We were a bit apprehensive about being ‘displaced’ for the time it took to complete the project, but it turned out to be unfounded. We were very comfortable in our sectioned off part of the house. We didn’t feel pressure to leave the house during the day before we were ready to.

You were all so easy and pleasant to interact with. We never had occasion to be uncomfortable or uneasy about who was working in our house, and we felt very comfortable with you coming and going as you needed to. You are all simply very nice people and feel like friends. I appreciated your patience with the changes I wanted to make along the way.

As for the work done, the finished project, we could not be happier. It turned out beautifully done and just exactly what we wanted. It doesn’t feel like the same house. The primary reason for making the changes was for [homeowner] to be able to get around with his walker and wheelchair. He now has all the room he needs to maneuver. We say several times a day to each other how much we love the house now. Quite a few people knew about what we were having done and asked often about how it was going. I was always happy to say it was going well and we were very pleased with the progress. We would be pleased to share our positive experience with anyone you’d like to refer to us.

Thank you again. You are all wonderful!”
